Associate Optics Design Engineer

We currently have an exciting position in Dublin, CA for an Associate Optics Design Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
The Optics Design Engineer (ODE) is responsible for the development and support of optical instrumentation for ophthalmic applications. The ODE performs optical testing in the lab, builds up and tests prototypes, owns and maintains the bill of material for certain products, handles optics-related ECOs, interfaces with vendors, and transfers the optical design to manufacturing. Entry-level optical design, using appropriate software tools, is expected to support the instrument development. Furthermore, the ODE will be responsible for organizing and maintaining the optical lab.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work on various ophthalmic instrument development projects
  • Perform entry-level optical design modeling, and critically review optical specifications for the instrument development
  • Coordinate prototype building efforts
  • Build and test optical systems
  • Procure optics components
  • Control the bill of material
  • Interface with optics vendors, and resolve optics parts procurement issues
  • Lead the ECO efforts for current developments and for sustaining optical issues of existing products
  • Transfer the optical design to manufacturing
  • Train technicians in the optical alignment and calibration
  • Organize and maintain the optical lab

REQUIREMENTS:
  • MS in Physics/Optics or similar with 2+ years experience, or BS in Physics/Optics or similar with 5+ years experience
  • Entry-level knowledge of optical design, using design tools such as Zemax or CodeV, optical testing and optical system layout are required.
  • Knowledge in optical coating issues, spectrometry, fiber optics, interferometry, optical specifications, the generation of optical parts drawings is required.
  • Hands-on experience in the laboratory set-up and optical testing are essential for this position.
