| JENA/Germany, 15.09.2008. Carl Zeiss Meditec, one of the world’s leading medical technology companies, presented the worldwide first intraocular lenses for true micro incision refractive cataract surgery, Acri.LISA and Acri.LISAtoric, at the XXVI Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in September in Berlin. “In the face of growing patient expectations for perfect vision, micro-incision surgery techniques are increasingly dissolving the boundaries between the disciplines of cataract and refractive surgery”, explains Dr. Michael Kaschke, President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG. “Our most advanced lenses, Acri.LISA and Acri.LISAtoric, have the potential to meet the refractive cataract surgeons’ and their patients’ expectations to implant a lens which does not induce astigmatism during surgery and provides his patients with a realistic chance to enjoy life without glasses.” Carl Zeiss Meditec has built a solid foundation for future customer-oriented solutions in the field of IOLs. Offering one of the most innovative premium portfolios of cataract, refractive and phakic IOLs, Carl Zeiss Meditec is striving to become the leader in refractive and cataract MICS surgery. The combination of Carl Zeiss Meditec‘s diagnostic and therapeutic solutions including integrated OR solutions and innovative IOL products offers a completely new range of options for the surgeon, now and in the future. Acri.LISA 366D and Acri.LISAtoric 466TD are the worldwide first multifocal intraocular lenses for refractive cataract surgery with incision sizes down to 1.5 mm (True MICS). Incision size for intraocular lens implantation has a major impact on the post-operative refractive outcome of the procedure. This is even more important if the aim of the surgeon for his patient is the opportunity to enjoy an active life without – or with only minimal – support from glasses. Both IOLs feature the most advanced technology in refractive cataract surgery available today. With their unique lens design, manufactured using the sophisticated SMP technology, they are able to meet even the highest standards of cataract and refractive surgeons and their patients. Aspheric optic; pupil size independent diffractive-refractive microstructure; asymmetrical light distribution between distant and near focus; and a proven pseudo-accommodation range of over 5 diopters provide for excellent distant and near vision. And with an extended intermediate range, enhanced depth of field, sharper vision under different light conditions and better contrast sensitivity with reduced risk of halos and glare – all leave very little for the presbyopic or presbyopic cataract patient to wish for. Detlev R.H. Breyer, MD; Duesseldorf, Germany, confirms: “The Acri.LISAtoric is the only toric and multifocal IOL that you can use with MICS technology, which is crucial for excellent results and predictability in modern phacorefractive surgery.” Kerstin Nössig Public Relations Phone: +49 3641 220-335 Fax: +49 3641 220-282 E-Mail: Number: 0180-2008-ENG OP Number of Words: 456 Number of Signs: 3123 |
